I keep getting sent to mobile sites when I use my Nexus 7. Sometimes, I don't mind the outcome but at other times I want to use the full desktop website. Is there anyway to prevent the re-direct or to let me choose which experience I want to load in my browser?

A quick fix is to switch to Dolphin Browser available on the Play Store. Install the app and then click on the app's settings. There you'll find an option for changing the browser to tell websites to switch to desktop mode. It makes sites think you're using a full browser. There should be no more redirects afterwards.
