I pretty much want to back up my Nexus 7.

Is there an efficient way to do without doing it manually (like using file manager)?

Try using Carbon.

Not to be confused with a few others that share the same name this one can be found in the Play Store.

You would really have to be rooted with a custom recovery to make a useful backup. I recommend installing TWRP to make a backup of your Android OS for safe keeping, It's as simple as a few taps to backup and restore! Toolkits work too, but they can be tricky.
